There were moments during which Arthur firmly believed life was totally unfair and this was one of them. Not only he had come across a violent downpour that had soaked his little wings so much he couldn't fly anymore, but above all, Francis has decided it was the best time to arrive and bother him.

 

"What do you want," he huffed, arms crossed over his chest. Francis was a kid from a near community and he always, always, had perfectly groomed wings. Of course. It was easy for him, with a caring mother and not having to spend half his days running aways from three very feisty brothers.

 

"Can't I visit my best friend?" Francis asked, followed by a "What happened to you?"

"It rained."

 

As if it wasn't already obvious. Arthur angled one wing so that it folded before his eyes to examine the situation better. It was worse than he had imagined, with pieces of leaves stuck between the feathers. He carefully started to remove one, only to soon find out how difficult was to do it alone. No matter how he moved his wings, there were still leaves that refused to be reached and it was starting to get annoying.

 

Even more with Francis still standing before him as to bathe in Arthur's own misfortune.

 

"Leave it, I'll do it," he sighed and, before Arthur could protest, raise up to his feet and walked away, he had already crouched behind him and started to pick up the remained leaves one by one. His gestures were practiced and fast and though he didn't like being baby-sitted, Arthur ended up thinking it was actually nice.

 

Plus, like this Francis was actually tolerable. He soon let himself drift into the soothing grooming.

 

"Done," Francis said, once finished, with a big and proud smile on his face. The kind that only ignited the antipathy Arthur had for him.

 

"Thank you. I guess, " he muttered, shaking away the last droplets of water from his wings.

 

Maybe the day hadn't been so bad, after all.
